The Unit Manager and Executive participated in the IUCN GL NVT Training as part of the Unit preparation for the Green List application for SPnCA. The training was organised by WWF-Malaysia with participation from a diverse group from the Sabah Forestry Department, Sarawak Forestry Corporation, Sabah Foundation, Sabah Parks, Jagoi Heritage Forest Sarawak. There was also a very useful sharing session on the first Green Listed site in Borneo and the first in Malaysia which is the Sugud Islands Marine Conservation Area (SIMCA). There was also a sharing from the IUCN Asia Green List Regional Coordinator, Mr Khalid Pasha and from Dr Joanne Wilson from Baranguba Montague Island and Dr Kelly Raymond from Park Victoria Warby-Ovens from Australia.

The IUCN Green List is the first sustainability standard comprising of 17 criteria and 50 indicators for assessing and enhancing the governance and management of protected and conserved areas. The use of the IUCN Green List can lead to tangible improvements on the ground for the management and governance of protected and conserved areas. A protected or conserved area that reaches the IUCN Green List Standard is certified and recognised as achieving ongoing results for people and nature in a fair and effective way.

Wish us luck for this journey in getting Green Listed!
