It’s Deepavali holiday!

But works still go on as usual at the Conservation & Biodiversity Unit (CBU) Office. On the 13th to the 15th of November 2023, a total of 20 women from Sg Pin Estate, Kg Paris 1, Kg Mengaris and Kg Batu Puteh and additional 3 participants from the CBU participated in the beads-based craft training workshop by Dalai Kontraktor led by Ms Jusnah Jinos and her team. The training was part of the women’s capacity development organized by the CBU and held at the CBU Sawit Kinabalu Conservation Information Centre (SKCIC). The course is also part of the IDH-Project training series to strengthen and empower the local communities and diversifying their income through other alternative livelihood activities.

The training module emphasizes on introduction of beads equipment and materials, types of ingredients used (bracelets, rings, necklaces, ear rings, lanyards), the process of preparation of materials and formation of products, the process of composing/embroidering beads and other materials, forming the product and finishing and market share, quality, and product cost.

It is hoped that through the training, it will give exposure to the women about beads-based handicraft products and to provide them with an alternative source of income if continued in the future.
