TUARAN: On 21st July 2025, CBU Senior Manager Mr Charis Saliun, Mr Rayner Philip, Mr Blasius Jailis and Kenny Peter attended the “Mammal and Herping Tourism in Sabah” Workshop organised by 1StopBorneo in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah. The workshop focused on strengthening conservation efforts and promoting special interest tourism through mammal and herpetofauna-based ecotourism.

The programme featured sharing sessions from various agencies, including Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC Sandakan), 1StopBorneo Wildlife, Lupa Masa Rainforest Camp, Borneo Elephant Sanctuary (BES), Sabah Parks and others. Presentations covered ecotourism package offerings, High Conservation Value (HCV) & High Biodiversity Value (HBV) sites, herping and mammal survey methods, as well as equipment used for wildlife observation. The workshop provided valuable insights and fostered collaboration among stakeholders, highlighting how herping is emerging as a new and exciting tourism product in Sabah.

This growing interest, alongside mammal-based ecotourism, reflects the potential of integrating conservation with tourism to create sustainable opportunities for biodiversity protection and community development.
