The Conservation & Biodiversity Unit represented by Mdm Rashidah M. participated in the Zoom Webinar on Resilience in Asian Ecotourism: Emerging Trends and Learning from Neighboring Countries as part of the Asean Ecotourism Network (AEN) Exchange Learning Webinar Series #3-2024.

The event gathered ecotourism experts and practitioners from across Asia to discuss sustainable and resilient approaches to tourism development in the region.

The webinar provided a platform for sharing insights, best practices, and innovative solutions to address the challenges faced by the ecotourism sector. It focused on fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among ASEAN countries, with an emphasis on building a sustainable future for tourism that benefits both local communities and the environment.

Experts from various countries presented successful case studies (based on the 2 Sessions) and discussed emerging trends in ecotourism, exploring strategies for adapting to environmental changes, preserving biodiversity, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of tourism in the region.

1. Learning from Japan: Ways to Overcome Overtourism in Japan In Ecotourism Site – Mr. Kazuhiro Arai, Japan

    2. Learning from Thailand : Carbon Free Tour in Thailand ; Knowledge, Skills and Training – Mrs. Supaporn Prachumpai, Thailand

    3. Learning from Indonesia : Sustainable Practices in Rural Tourism and Partnerships with Conservation Organizations – Mr. Ary S Suhandi, Indonesia

    Session II :

    1. Learning from Taiwan : Government and Local Administration Support in Sustainable Ecotourism Development in Protected Area – Dr. Yung Song Chen, Taiwan

      2. Learning from India : Global Wildlife Fair – Mr. Mohit Aggarwal, India

      3. Learning from Malaysia : Upskilling and Training of Local Communities and Ecotourism Experiences – Prof. Dr. Vikneswaran Nair, Malaysia

      This event provided a valuable opportunity for our Unit to connect with regional experts, deepen our understanding of ecotourism resilience in Asia, and gain inspiration to drive sustainable change. As we work towards establishing a sustainable eco-tourism business, the insights gained from the webinar will guide our efforts in promoting environmentally responsible and community-centered tourism practices.
